The Boy Who Cried Invasives

Greetings fellow invasive hunters,

Join a young sheepherder and Doctor Benjamin in this a cautionary tale for alarmist naturalists who fail to distinguish between native plants and nefarious invasives.

Enjoy!

Commander Ben featured in the Texas Invasives newsletter

Wow!  What a great honor to be featured in the July 2011 iWire Texas Invasives newsletter.

The Texas Invasives site is a great way to learn about invasive species, make and view sightings, and take action.

I’m excited to teach kids of all ages and help train the next generation of invasive hunters.

Thanks Texas Invasives!

A Fistful of Saltcedar

Here’s my latest invasives video, an “hommage” to spaghetti westerns:

With their riparian habitat under attack by a nefarious gang of Saltcedar (Tamarix ramosissima) bandits, Commander Ben, the invasive hunter with a name, answers the desperate texts and tweets from the native plants of the southwest.

Enjoy!

A Day with Dr. Clark at The UT School of Biological Sciences

This past Wednesday I got to spend the afternoon with Dr. Gregory Clark at The University of Texas School of Biological Sciences. It was fantastic!

Dr. Clark was so nice and very willing to teach me about plant biology. I especially enjoyed visiting the greenhouse on top of the school building that was loaded with tons of different plants. The cactus room was the best…so cool!

Thanks again to Dr. Clark and UT for a great day!

In an Ecesis Far Far Away…

Before the non-native times, learn about Commander Ben’s ultimately doomed attempt to teach Elephant Ear (Colocasia esculenta) how to become an invasive hunter.

Hello, my friends.

Sorry that it has been a while since we last talked.  Summer’s in full swing and I’ve been enjoying the outdoors and camps, including a camp this week with my rescued yellow lab.

This video is my most complex yet.  I hope you enjoy it.  My next one will be a southwestern invasive adventure.  I look forward to talking more with you then.  In the meantime enjoy my latest video and happy Independence Day!
